As part of our secondary school placement program and our broader commitment to expanding educational opportunity throughout Harlem, we host an annual High School Fair. This year, more than 300 students, families, and community members met with representatives from over 40 schools, including some familiar faces: Harlem Academy graduates who came back to represent their schools!
We caught up with some of our middle schoolers to hear how the High School Fair shaped their thinking about the opportunities ahead.
BE HONEST ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT.
“If they ask what you’re interested in, tell them the truth. That way, you can find a school that’s a good fit for you.”
- Akash ’28
LOOK FOR A SCHOOL WHERE YOU’LL BE CHALLENGED.
“I found out more about the curricula, which helped me learn where I would be challenged the most so I can grow as a student.”
- Greysen ’27
BE CONFIDENT AND PREPARED.
“Every time I give people handshakes, I say my name. I also have questions ready so I can be more organized about what I ask them.”
- Jamal ’27
STAY ENGAGED.
“Keep smiling, keep your head up, and stay engaged in the conversation."
- Eva ’28
SEIZE NEW OPPORTUNITIES.
“Many schools have different schedules and a variety of classes. One school said that for English, you could learn about film instead of taking a regular English class.”
- Zoë ’27
We're proud to see our students taking ownership of their futures, asking thoughtful questions, and exploring the many opportunities ahead!
