Responsibilities:
Our incoming physical education teacher has responsibility to:
Lead weekly sports and fitness classes across all grades (K-8), working with grade-specific teachers in the delivery of the program for the younger students and running programming independently for groups of 20 to 30 students in the older grades
Coordinate and coach a coed, middle school cross-country team (fall) and track team (spring)
Coordinate our partnerships with outside organizations for the delivery of programming in sports such as tennis, fencing, or soccer
Foster an environment where students are encouraged to take risks, solve problems, develop critical thinking skills, and build habits for lifelong healthy living.
Differentiate instruction to meet a range of abilities from students who are already competitive athletes to those who are just being introduced to many of the activities
Use FitnessGram to measure student progress and provide meaningful feedback to students and their families.
Participating actively in the school community, including attending faculty meetings, and school events, and contributing to extracurricular activities.
Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in relevant field is preferred but not required
At least three years of relevant experience, ideally in a K-8 school environment.
Strong communication, organizational, and group management skills.
Compensation:
Harlem Academy offers professional development opportunities, benefits, 10 weeks of paid vacation, and salary from $50,000 to $70,000 based on experience and demonstrated skills.
