Harlem Academy’s associate teachers must possess outstanding skills for maximizing learning and resolve to do whatever it takes to help build a school in Harlem that rivals the best private schools in New York City. Qualified applicants must demonstrate:
A steadfast commitment to the school’s mission.
Foundational skills for academic instruction and general student supervision.
A record for maintaining a professional work ethic including timeliness, attendance, communication, decision-making, follow-through, and adherence to school policies.
Strong planning, organization, and written and oral communication skills.
An ability to reflect upon practices and work in improve as an educator.
Professional conduct and a thoughtful, team-oriented approach.
The school year begins for teachers on August 15. Daily responsibilities are generally from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with occasional work outside of regular hours.
Teaching or co-teaching one or two academic courses with a commitment to strong planning and practice of effective instructional techniques.
Leading co-curricular programs: recess, lunch, athletics, study hall, arts, electives, and advisory, insuring that Harlem Academy students learn to live the school creed
Partner with lead teachers and attending families in formal and informal meetings, written comments, class culture, and other areas as needed.
Harlem Academy offers a challenging and supportive work environment, leadership and professional growth opportunities, generous health benefits, and 10 weeks of paid vacation, and an annual salary ranging from $35,000-$45,000.
