Responsibilities:
Our incoming associate teacher must possess outstanding skills for maximizing learning and a commitment to helping nurture a school that rivals the best private schools in New York City. The associate teacher has the following core responsibilities:
  • Lead co-curricular programs: recess, lunch, athletics, study hall, and advisory.
  • Teach one academic area of interest and skill (often science, reading, or writing).
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and a thoughtful, team-oriented approach in timeliness, attendance, communication, decision-making, follow-through, and adherence to school policies.
  • Manage routines and environments to ensure safety, academic performance, holistic growth, and a warm and inviting classroom culture that reinforces our school creed.
  • Build genuine relationships with families through daily engagement, formal and informal written correspondence, meetings, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Reflect on and improve professional practices with mission-focus, depth, and honesty.
Compensation:
Harlem Academy offers a challenging and supportive work environment, leadership and professional growth opportunities, health benefits, and a salary starting at $38,000.  Daily responsibilities are generally from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with occasional work outside of regular hours.

To Apply:
Applicants are asked to email a cover letter and resume to Kristy Castro, Primary and Elementary Director, at kcastro@harlemacademy.org (Attn: Associate Teacher).  The cover letter should be no more than two pages and describe your capacity for contribution.  This search includes opportunities for both the current school year and for an August 2023 start.

Equal Opportunity Employer:
Harlem Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, age, gender, national origin or ancestry, veteran's status, sexual orientation, or any non-job related physical or mental disability.  We welcome candidates who will contribute to our diversity and strongly encourage applicants from traditionally marginalized groups.
