BioBase – BioBus – Students collaborate in small groups with scientists and examine different types of cells under high powered microscopes.
Chess NYC – A chess master provides chess instruction and structured practice for students in grades 1-8.
Classic Stage Company – Actors work with students for one week and students watch them perform a Shakespearean play.
Columbia University Astronomy Department – Students visit the Pupin Physics facility, explore the astronomy library, visit the Rutherfurd Observatory, and speak with graduate students. The following week, a team of scientists from the astronomy department visits our classroom for a guest lesson on light from stars.
Columbia University Neuroscience Department – Neuroscientists lead an eight-week, experiment-based brain unit that culminates in a dissection.
Metropolitan Museum of Art – A representative provides classroom instruction each year, followed by guided tours of related exhibits.
Poetry Society of America – Poets visit our sixth and eighth-grade classrooms for six weeks, leading students through the creative process of writing, revising, critiquing, and performing original works.
Princeton Blairstown Center – Our middle school students take a three-day team-building trip to a wilderness setting focused on adventure-based experiential learning for urban youth.
Rafael Viñoly Architects – Students collaborate closely with architects for five weeks to design a city block, culminating in a presentation at RVA’s offices.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – All middle school students spend three days on the Rensselaer campus working on applied math and science questions alongside students and professors.
