All the brick and glass work is complete on our new building at 655 St. Nicholas Avenue, and the construction team is getting ready to finish the canopy and entrance.
The entry commons is filled with natural light and connects all of our shared spaces: school yard (out of view to the left), café (lower right), and library (above right).
The café will serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks with seating for almost 100 students and the flexibility to move tables for performances. (Hopefully, there won’t be quite so much left behind after middle school lunch!)
The expansive library will serve as the heart of the school and a wonderful expression of our strong reading culture with lots of comfortable seating options and room for over 6,000 books!
The library opens onto a large outdoor terrace that will feature seating for individuals and entire classes, plus a variety of trees, shrubs, and grasses.
Moving up to the third level, you get a sense of the color and light that will fill our hallways and classrooms. To the left is the entrance to our fifth grade classroom. To the right is one of five flexible breakout rooms interspersed throughout the school. (The finished floors are covered with cardboard for protection, but we’ll definitely need some touch-up painting before we move in.)
Each of the 12 light-filled classrooms will feature two bays of operable windows, strong technology, ample storage, and seating for 18 students.
Our green roof has space to the right that houses all of our mechanical systems and offers views of St. Nicholas Park and City College in the distance.
And finally, here’s a view of the front facade from the sidewalk!
