Fourth Grade Science

Unit 1: Soils, Rocks & Land Forms
Students investigate properties of soil by comparing different soils, explore how rocks break into smaller pieces through physical and chemical weathering, and use stream-table models to observe that water moves earth materials from one location to another.

Unit 2: Energy
Students investigate electricity and magnetism and conduct controlled experiments. They explore energy transfer through waves (repeating patterns of motion) that results in sound and motion. They also gather information about how energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and the environmental impact.

Unit 3: Environments
Students design investigations to study environments and optimum conditions for growth and survival of specific organisms. They graph and interpret data from multiple trials of experiments and build explanations from evidence.
Skills: Analyzing and interpreting data after an experiment, making conclusions from an experiment, using evidence to support or disprove a hypothesis
