Dear HA Families,
I hope you had a safe, happy Thanksgiving.
Harlem Academy will stay with a fully-remote program until at least January 11. COVID positivity rates continue to be high in the neighborhoods where our students and teachers reside, and we are worried about additional exposure during the holidays.
We hope that a week of fully remote programming in January will allow for any needed post-holiday quarantining and testing so that anyone who wants to learn from school can do so as of January 11. Of course, we will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that any restart of the learning from school option makes sense from a safety perspective, and programming will continue to be run with the option for most teachers and students to work from home.
It has been a real blessing to see the ways students and adults have continued to check in and care for each other in classes, community meetings, and personal outreach. Members of our community have also shared resources for good places to access help (updated services list attached) and even made anonymous gifts in case anyone needs a little extra support during this time.
Since we are now entering the ninth month of this crisis and still have challenging times ahead of us, we wanted to send a Needs Survey so anyone who is struggling can confidentiality let us know where they could use more help. It's a short one-page survey, so please take a look.
Again, my thanks to all for your continued partnership in your children's education and in keeping our Harlem Academy community strong.
P.S. The school building will be open on Monday, December 7 (8am to 4pm) for anyone who needs to pick-up/return books or exchange technology.
