We seek motivated students in grades one through eight who are ready for rigorous academics. Our families come from Harlem, the Bronx, and all across the tri-state area. No student is ever turned away for an inability to pay.
Our extended day program (7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) allows parents and teachers to partner together. The head of school holds a monthly coffee gathering to discuss key issues, and most parents choose to volunteer in the program. Our annual survey is completed by 90% of families and almost all of them give the school strong marks for meeting its mission.
In addition to our focus on rigorous intellectual engagement and character development, we think it’s just as important to have fun and enjoy learning. We act out the crazy plots of Shakespeare’s plays. We study the brain with Columbia University neuroscientists. We engage with primary sources in history to understand what really happened. We grapple with advanced problems in math lab. We explore New York City’s rich resources, and we travel outside the city to experience forests, farms, and universities. We play chess. We sculpt. We knit. And we live by our school creed and pillars: initiative, integrity, compassion, and determination.
For a student who is doing well in his or her current school and shows the potential to take on greater challenge, we encourage you to start your application today.
