Harlem Academy is completing the construction of its new campus this fall and will embark on an exciting phase of expansion over the next five years. The development associate will be a critical partner in ensuring the school has the resources needed to grow and strengthen its mission.
Reporting to the development director, the senior development associate will work with the development team on execution of the annual giving, communications, and donor cultivation strategies for the year. As a member of the team, you will partner in achieving our team’s goals of surpassing fiscal year goals, managing external relationships, and deepening donors’ connection to the school. In collaboration with the development director and other members of the team, key responsibilities include:
  • Oversee volunteer programs for supporters, including a weekly mentoring program, interview prep nights, and corporate volunteer days.
  • Design and implement cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events.
  • Support board committee and junior board management.
  • Conduct prospect research on individuals, foundations, and corporations. 
  • Support general development, communications, and strategy work as needed.
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in fundraising and a demonstrated interest in the school’s mission
  • Experience leading events and working with volunteers preferred
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other donor database
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences in writing, in person, and over the Zoom/phone
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize
  • Self-motivation and the ability to take initiative

Harlem Academy offers associates a supportive work environment and opportunities for advancement within the organization. Salaries are competitive, and generous benefits include five weeks of paid vacation time (plus major federal holidays) and excellent health benefits. The position currently is remote because of COVID-19, with a likely return to in-person late fall. Daily responsibilities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and occasional work outside of regular hours.
