Saturday Club

The Saturday Club connects Harlem Academy students with about 25 recent college graduates in a fun and inspiring program that models the atmosphere and activities that students will encounter at top secondary schools. The volunteers serve as mentors and friends to the students, taking an active role in building friendships and memories with our students.

The atmosphere of the Saturday Club is responsible and casual. Responsibility in Saturday Club means that students demonstrate respect, act cooperatively, and make a positive contribution. Casual means that students choose the activities in which they engage and attendance is not mandatory; students only attend if they are genuinely interested in participating.

The Saturday Club takes place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and meets for 10 consecutive Saturdays in the fall trimester. Each Saturday, students who attend this program have their choice of indoor intellectual activities from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (including logic games, arts and crafts projects, or cultural exploration), choice of outdoor activities from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (including a pick-up sports game or hike through Central Park), and a relaxed lunch with friends from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.
