Grade Five

Grade five begins with an exploration of the brain and metacognition to better understand how to learn and remember new information. Students then explore the ways in which societies must balance the needs of the individual with the needs of the group through units on responsibility, morality, and the philosophy of friendship. Using the Basic Writing Skills progression, grade-five students begin to learn the framework behind successful expository, process-based, and persuasive writing.
