Grade Five

In grade five, students are introduced to whole numbers, exploring number notation and place values, multiplication and division, approximation and estimation, and the order of operations. Students learn to calculate the volume of a cube and area of a triangle and discover statistics with lessons on reading and interpreting line graphs. Students learn to convert fractions and decimals and to add, subtract, multiply, and divide them. Geometry begins with an exploration of angles and properties of different geometric shapes. Students also work on averages, ratios and proportions, and percentages.
