Grade One
Grade one begins with personal narrative writing. Instruction focuses on “zooming in” on small moments in the lives of the children. Students explore fiction, fairy tales, nonfiction, and poetry and gain a repertoire of skills and strategies to craft organized, expressive pieces of writing. Grammar lessons on composing complete sentences and punctuation are incorporated throughout the writing cycle. In June, students revise various writing samples to reflect their growth as writers.
