I’ve noticed a real change in my daughter over the past year; she’s more self-aware, more responsible, and more involved.

Grade-two students complete three science units: Solids and Liquids, Air and Weather, and New Plants. These units connect to a wonderful series of trips, including the Dyckman Farmhouse, Rose Theater at Lincoln Center, Morgan Library, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Alley Pond. In the Solids and Liquids unit, students learn about the physical world, categorizing objects and establishing a descriptive science vocabulary. The Air and Weather unit teaches students to identify patterns in clouds, temperature, and wind. We end the year with a life science study of new plants. During this unit, we grow and experiment with plants and visit gardens. This study is supplemented with a mini-unit on snails, our class pets, and the trees of Central Park.
