Grade Four

Students begin the year with a Water unit in which they explore water’s properties, changes, interactions with other materials, and use by humans. Our exploration then moves to a unit on the power of Magnetism and Electricity. Through this physical science unit, students observe and manipulate materials using simple tools. Students discover the forces of attraction and repulsion in magnets; measure changes in force between two magnets; identify conductors and insulators; and explore open, closed, parallel, and series circuits. As a culminating activity, students learn about electromagnets and use this information to make a telegraph. We end with a life science unit on the Human Body. As a culminating activity, students write, produce, and perform demonstrations of various parts and functions of the human body.
