Grade Two

Students in grade two learn to explain their reasoning rather than just memorizing facts. Students solve addition and subtraction problems through the hundreds and master about 75% of the multiplication and division facts from zero to twelve. Students learn how mental math, manipulatives, drawing, and paper computation can help to solve problems. By drawing a model of a problem, they can determine the operation needed to find the answer. A student workbook is used for homework assignments, helping students and families see progress, follow in-class strategies, and review upcoming content. Using games, teacher-focused instruction, and textbook practice, each student works throughout the year to engage, understand, and enjoy math.
