7:30-8:30 Arrival
Preparation for the day and quiet reading, with jazz or classical music. The school opens at 7:30AM, and all students are required to arrive by 8:20AM.
8:30-10:45 Literacy
A balance of phonics and literature-based reading instruction, grammar and spelling, literacy centers, individualized work, writing workshop, whole class and small group formats, and independent reading and journaling. Time is set aside for teacher-student conferencing and assessment. Each class also receives Spanish instruction twice a week during this block.
10:45-11:00 Snack and Break
11:00-12:00 Mathematics
A balance of concept development, skill development, and problem-solving. Whole class, small group, and individual instruction using manipulative, paper and pencil, and mental strategies.
12:00-12:30 Lunch
12:30-1:30 Recess
1:30-2:30 Choice
Art activities, computer, building blocks, games, logic puzzles, and reading.
2:30-3:30 Sciences
3:30-3:45 Snack, Jobs, and Prep forAthletics
3:45-5:00 Athletics
An active time for wellness in its many forms such as exercise, athletic skill development, dance, and outdoor free play, along with work with visiting artists and extended field trips.
5:00-6:00 Homework Help, Extension Activities and Departure
Students may be picked up any time after 5:00PM depending on each family’s schedule. Teachers supervise reading, homework, and limited choice activities.
