In addition to working 11 years at the Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged, Angela taught for 10 years at the Learning Leaders and the Ricardo O'Gorman School. Before assuming her current duties in grade two, Angela taught in Harlem Academy's afternoon program for three years.

While working primarily in grade three, he also coordinates grade three and four mid-day and afternoon activities, teaches chess, and continues developing Bridging Education, Arts, and Technology (The BEAT), a program that teaches children to express themselves in written and spoken word, work that is inspired by his personal experience as a hip-hop artist.

Prior to coming to Harlem Academy, she worked in communications and development for conservation non-profits in Washington, D.C., and Corfu, Greece.

He previously served as the K-8 English chair and a middle year program coordinator at The Dwight School (N.Y.), where he also earned certification as an International Baccalaureate curriculum coordinator, site evaluator, and workshop leader. Along with his leadership duties at Harlem Academy, Chris teaches grade five English and grade seven Reason and Rhetoric

At Temple, LaShonda was an active community service volunteer and received multiple awards for academic achievement. She came to Harlem Academy through her work as a lead teacher at the St. Aloysius Education Clinic's summer program and brings a strong background in literacy and science to her work.

An avid runner, Celia plays a lead role in early elementary athletics and also teach a lower school art course.

Along with Ms. Lefeber, he teaches grade five Reason and Rhetoric and grades five and seven etymology. He also will serve as the middle school coordinator for the Saturday Club, working with the Friends of Harlem Academy.

Terrill comes to Harlem Academy after first attending and then teaching at the St. Aloysius Educational Clinic's honors program. Beyond his work as a grade three teacher, Terrill coordinates our community meeting, coaches athletics, and teaches chess.

Susan worked with various arts and education organizations before joining Harlem Academy. She also served as an Americorps volunteer.

She spent the past three years advocating for children and youth in a variety of capacities. Most recently, she served an AmeriCorps term with Jumpstart San Francisco, educating families and community stakeholders in lower-income areas about the importance of early childhood education. Currently graduate student at NYU for educational leadership, Heather is excited to be the Harlem Academy outreach fellow and gain insight on school leadership.

She earned her B.A. from Colorado College and had a career in children's educational television before becoming a teacher. Kate has been a lead teacher at Harlem Academy since its founding and led our most recent curriculum documentation project.

Prior to teaching at Harlem Academy, Sarah was both a student teacher and then a lead teacher at St. Aloysius Educational Clinic in New York City. Along with Mr. Francis, Ms. Lefeber teaches grade five Reason and Rhetoric and grades five and seven etymology.

Prior to joining the Harlem Academy community, he worked in the University of Chicago Department of Mathematics and earned a Math for America Fellowship.  At Harlem Academy, Mr. Munk teaches math to grades five, six, and seven.

Allison Murray,
middle school science teacher (3 years), graduated with an M.A. in science education from Teachers College, Columbia University.  She holds a B.A. in biology and philosophy from the University of Miami and a certificate in print journalism from NYU.  At Harlem Academy, Allison teaches science and serves as a coach and leader in our athletics program.

She is a life-long Harlem resident and member of our local Community Board. Jennifer directs the annual admissions process for prospective families and facilitates communication between the school, attending families, and our community partners.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it middle school social studies teacher (4 years), graduated from Providence College with a B.A. in history.  In college, he earned a teaching certificate in history and saved enough time for a leading role in the school’s radio station and newspaper.  Sean is teaching grades five, six, and seven history, in addition to information technology and curriculum research and development.

Kyana is a native of Harlem and is familiar with her surroundings. She comes to Harlem Academy after teaching at the St. Aloysius Educational Clinic and is currently working on her M.A. in elementary education.

He brings over 10 years of senior level finance and accounting experience, in both the profit and non-profit sectors. In addition to the day-today activities, he works with the head of school to develop and implement long-term financial and operational initiatives.

After graduating and moving to New York, Elisabeth began her relationship with Harlem Academy as a tutor, followed by volunteering as the Lower School Drama class instructor. Elisabeth has spent much of her life dedicated to the arts, both as a performer and as an educator, and has nearly five years of experience teaching drama to young people.
