Past Runners

2010 ING New York City Marathon Team

Thank you to our five 2010 ING New York City Marathon runners and all who contributed in support of them.  Together they raised more than $84,000 in scholarship funds for Harlem Academy students.

Bill and Will Mayer - father and son team and long-time supporters of Harlem Academy

Bill and Will are running because they, “strongly believe that every individual should have the right to reach their potential, and we deeply support the academics, character building and community values that Harlem Academy provides for its students.” Will is a licensed clinical psychologist, and Bill is a founding partner of Park Avenue Equity Partners.

Yolonda Pickett and Cedric Olivera - newlyweds and Harlem Academy family

Yolonda is the mother of Camille, a grade six student at Harlem Academy. "As a parent it is important to be engaged with the school and running the marathon is a fun way to do that," said Yolonda. Cedric, a surgeon, is running, "because I believe in Harlem Academy and its mission."

Dan Scanfeld – barefoot runner and husband of Harlem Academy's grant writer, Vanessa

When not running barefoot, Dan keeps busy working on his Ph.D. in computational biology and caring for his new son, Kieran. He said, “My wife Vanessa and I decided to raise money for Harlem Academy because we love the school.”
