Why We Chose HA

I learned about Harlem Academy from a friend whose daughter was a first grader.  I went online and did my research and was surprised to learn that there was an affordable independent school in Harlem.

After I left the open house, I was elated by the wealth of information shared by current parents.  I immediately called my mother and told her I wanted my Nia to attend Harlem Academy.  During the admissions process, Ms. Prince created a welcoming environment for me and my daughter.  After my daughter's visit to the class, she told me that Harlem Academy was going to be her new school.  Nia had a wonderful first year.  She has become more articulate and is very excited about learning and going to school daily.

My second child is now in first grade.  During the school year she made many trips to pick up her sister, participated in family game night, watched the Halloween parade, and went on a few class trips.  She told me that she was going to attend Harlem Academy, too.  She even tried on the uniform a couple of times at home.  It was a journey through her admissions process, but she earned her seat.  On the first day of school she woke up and stated with a smile, “I am a Harlem Academy student!”  She smiled with such pride knowing she is attending a school that is the best.

I wake up every day knowing my children are in an elite learning environment.  The peak of my day is picking up my daughters and hearing them share what they have learned in school.  They are never ready to go home at the end of the day.  Harlem Academy creates and nurtures the minds of our future.  I also love the relationships between the home, students, and teachers.  Harlem Academy is developing children’s academic and social well-being, and I will continue to support and recommend this fine learning environment.
