Angela Bailey

| Grade Two Teacher (7 years)

Angela Bailey graduated from City College of New York with a B.A. in liberal arts and science. In addition to working 11 years at the Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged, Angela taught for 10 years at the Learning Leaders and the Ricardo O'Gorman School. Before assuming her current duties in grade two, Angela taught in Harlem Academy's afternoon program for three years.

Lauren Barth

| Middle School Teacher (1 year)

Lauren Barth graduated from Oswego State University (SUNY), with a degree in adolescent education and a double minor in history and athletic coaching.  In college she was heavily involved in volunteer work, and currently she is an active member of the Lions Club.  Before joining the Harlem Academy team, Lauren worked as a substitute teacher throughout Manhattan.  Every summer Lauren returns to Long Island to lifeguard for the Town of Islip, a passion since high school.  At Harlem Academy Lauren teaches grade five science, clubs, advisory, and athletics.   

Khari Barton

| Grade Four Teacher (8 years)

Khari Barton graduated from Morgan State University with a B.S. in public relations and first came to Harlem Academy through an apprenticeship at Public Allies. While working primarily in grade four, he also coordinates grade three and four mid-day and afternoon activities, teaches chess, and continues developing Bridging Education, Arts, and Technology (The BEAT), a program that teaches children to express themselves in written and spoken word, work that is inspired by his personal experience as a hip-hop artist.

Britta Blodgett

| Communications Director (3 years)

Britta Blodgett graduated from Carleton College with a B.A. in comparative religion and a concentration in media studies. Prior to coming to Harlem Academy, she worked in communications and development for conservation nonprofits in Washington, D.C., and Corfu, Greece.

Kelly Brown

| Administrative Fellow (1 year)

Kelly graduated from The City College of New York with a B.A. in advertising and public relations. Prior to coming to Harlem Academy, she worked at a media agency for LG Electronics. Since high school, Kelly has taken on positions with children - including Camp Mohawk Day Camps, SCORE! Educational Center, and a daycare for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.

Dan Castelli

| Communications Fellow (1 year)

Dan Castelli graduated from Macalester College with a B.A. in history and American studies and a minor in media studies. Prior to coming to Harlem Academy, Dan interned at an economic policy nonprofit in Boston and with the public school system of Saint Paul, Minn.

Chris Cunningham

| Middle School Director (3 years)

Chris Cunningham holds an M.S.Ed. in educational leadership from Bank Street College and a B.A. in English literature from Princeton University. He previously served as the K-8 English chair and a middle year program coordinator at The Dwight School (N.Y.), where he also earned certification as an International Baccalaureate curriculum coordinator, site evaluator, and workshop leader. Along with his leadership duties at Harlem Academy, Chris teaches grade five English and grade seven Reason and Rhetoric.

LaShonda Davis

| Grade One Teacher & Lower School Reading Director (7 years)

LaShonda Davis graduated from Temple University with a degree in elementary education. At Temple, LaShonda was an active community service volunteer and received multiple awards for academic achievement. She came to Harlem Academy through her work as a lead teacher at the St. Aloysius Education Clinic's summer program and brings a strong background in literacy and science to her work.

Celia Dillon

| Grade One Teacher (3 years)

Celia Dillon graduated from Holy Cross with B.A. in political science and came to Harlem Academy after teaching at the Good Shepherd School in Los Angeles, Ca. An avid runner, Celia plays a lead role in early elementary athletics and also teaches a lower school art course.

Vinny Dotoli

| Head of School (8 years)

Vinny Dotoli holds an M.A. in educational administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.S. in psychology from Union College. He began his career at South Bristol School and Camp Kieve in mid-coast Maine. Vinny also taught at the Pennfield School (R.I.), taught at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School (Mass.), and spent 17 summers at Camp Timanous (Me.) directing the wilderness trips and counselor-training programs.

Peter Ebling

| Lower School Teacher (2 years)

Peter graduated from Hobart College with a degree in English. Previously he served as a head counselor at Camp Timanous and as a soccer and basketball coach for youth teams. At Harlem Academy, Peter assists in all lower school grades and coordinates lower school athletics.

Lorenzo Francis

| Grade Three Teacher (3 years)

Lorenzo Francis graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in English. He previously worked at City Year, a tutoring and mentor program in Washington, D.C., and as a sports instructor at Oasis Children’s Services.  A former Harlem Academy teaching fellow, Lorenzo is a member of our grade three teaching team and also serves as a coach and the middle school coordinator for the Saturday Club.

Terrill Hughes

| Grade Five Teacher (6 years)

Terrill Hughes graduated from Lehman College, CUNY, with a B.A. in communications. Terrill came to Harlem Academy after first attending and then teaching at the St. Aloysius Educational Clinic's honors program. Terrill taught for many years in our lower school before moving to the middle school team where he teaches grade five English, history, and math.

Billy Johnson

| Middle School Teacher (1 year)

Billy Johnson began his career as a grade five teacher at P.S. 92 in Harlem.  After four years in public school teaching, he moved to Saint Aloysius School in Harlem where he spent five years teaching grade five, mentoring new teachers, and coordinating summer programs.  At Harlem Academy, Billy serves as a teacher, coach, and grade six boys advisor.

Kate Larson

| Grade Two Teacher & Lower School Writing Director (8 years)

Kate Larson graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, with a M.A. in early childhood education and a dual certification in general and special education. She earned her B.A. from Colorado College and had a career in children's educational television before becoming a teacher. Kate has been a lead teacher at Harlem Academy since its founding and led our most recent curriculum documentation project.

Sarah Lefeber

| Middle School Teacher (2 years)

Sarah Lefeber graduated from Rollins College with a B.A. in elementary education. Prior to teaching at Harlem Academy, Sarah was both a student teacher and then a lead teacher at St. Aloysius Educational Clinic in New York City. Ms. Lefeber teaches middle school reason and rhetoric and is a middle school girls advisor.

Grace Longeway

| Development Associate (2 years)

Grace Longeway graduated from University of Wisconsin, Madison with a B.A. in English.  Before joining Harlem Academy, she worked with NGOs in Kenya to develop primary education and fight child exploitation.  Prior to her work in Kenya, she organized and taught English as a Second Language classes for low-income immigrants and refugees in Madison, Wisc. 

Kahdeidra Martin

| Dean of Students (2 years)

Kahdeidra Martin graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in African & African American studies and a minor in linguistics. She is currently pursuing an M.A. in educational leadership studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. Before joining the Harlem Academy team, Kahdeidra worked in the intersections of education and community development for more than 10 years, including time with Harlem Children's Zone, CAMBA, Inc., and Beginning with Children Charter School.  At Harlem Academy, Kahdeidra coordinates both secondary school placement and the advisory program, and teaches a grade eight Reason and Rhetoric class.

Alex Munk

| Middle School Math Teacher (2 years)

Alex Munk holds an M.A. in mathematics education from NYU and a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining the Harlem Academy community, he worked in the University of Chicago Department of Mathematics and earned a Math for America Fellowship.  At Harlem Academy, Alex teaches math to grades six through eight and supports math instruction in all grades.

Allison Murray

| Middle School Science Teacher (4 years)

Allison Murray graduated with an M.A. in science education from Teachers College, Columbia University.  She holds a B.A. in biology and philosophy from the University of Miami and a certificate in print journalism from NYU.  At Harlem Academy, Allison teaches science to grades six through eight and supports science instruction in all grades.

Stanton Orser

| Development Director (1 year)

Stan has 30 years of fundraising experience and a passion for the mission and vision of Harlem Academy. Previously, he worked for the American Museum of Natural History, Lawrenceville School (N.J.), and Cranbrook School (Mich.). He started his own consultancy practice in 1995, working with groups such as Eastern Michigan University, Detroit Institute of Arts, and NextEnergy. Stan holds a B.A. in English literature from Princeton University.

Tanielle Parker

| Grade Three Teacher (1 year)

Tanielle holds an M.A. in education and human development from George Washington University. She obtained her M.A. through the DC Teaching Fellows Program. She is dual certified in early childhood and special education and taught in the District of Columbia Public School system for four years. She also holds a B.A. in administration of justice with a minor in juvenile justice from the University of the District of Columbia.

Jennifer Prince

| Admissions Director (8 years)

Jennifer Prince graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a B.A. in art history. She is a life-long Harlem resident and member of our local Community Board. Jennifer directs the annual admissions process for prospective families and facilitates communication between the school, attending families, and our community partners.

Sean Robertson

| Middle School Social Studies Teacher (5 years)

Sean Robertson graduated from Providence College with a B.A. in history.  In college, he earned a teaching certificate in history and saved enough time for a leading role in the school’s radio station and newspaper.  Sean teaches history to grades six through eight and serves as a leader in our athletics and afternoon programs.

Kyana Smith

| Grade Four Teacher (2 years)

Kyana Smith graduated from Lehman College, CUNY with a B.A. in English and a minor in education. Kyana came to Harlem Academy after teaching at the St. Aloysius Educational Clinic and is currently working on her M.A. in elementary education.  She serves as the lead teacher for grade four.

Leonard Smith

| Finance Director (3 years)

Leonard Smith graduated with a B.A. in finance from the University of Iowa. He brings more than 10 years of senior level finance and accounting experience, in both the profit and non-profit sectors. In addition to the day-to-day activities, he works with the head of school to develop and implement long-term financial and operational initiatives.

Whitney Wood

| Middle School English Teacher (2 years)

Whitney Wood earned a B.A. in English and American literature and language from Harvard University and an M.A. in the teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University. Most recently she worked as a lead teacher for the Student Press Initiative at Teachers College. For fun, Whitney has performed, directed, and taught classical violin, a cappella singing, and musical theater.
