From the Head of School

Welcome to Harlem Academy.

Vinny Dotoli at Community MeetingWhen we set out to build a school for bright, motivated children in Harlem, we could not have imagined how far we would come in just eight years. I am humbled by the school’s growth from 12 students in 2004 to the thriving elementary and middle grades program we have today.

Harlem Academy is a private school. We believe in meritocracy, upward mobility, and an extraordinary mission to prepare students for success at top secondary schools and lifelong learning. Students are admitted based on potential to succeed in a rigorous academic environment and willingness to contribute to our school community. Each family must give time and tuition, but tuition is set to a sliding scale to ensure that Harlem Academy is affordable to children of all economic backgrounds.

Love of learning permeates our school culture, and every student commits to the Harlem Academy creed. Starting with “I am bold and creative” and ending with “I don’t give up,” the creed defines our community pillars: integrity, initiative, compassion, and determination.

Harlem Academy is students, parents, teachers, volunteers, and philanthropists building a transformational experience at the crossroads of 111th Street and Fifth Avenue. I invite you to explore our website for a window into Harlem Academy’s extraordinary program.

Sincerely,

Vinny Dotoli
Head of School
